Letters of Langston Hughes to H.R. Hays [manuscript], 1942 July 4-25.

Two letters and a postcard from Langston Hughes to H. R. Hayes, a reviewer for "Poetry Magazine," concern Haitian and Afro-Cuban writers. Hughes discusses Jacques Roumain, Félix Morrisseau-Leroy, Nicolás Guillén, and "Francisca" and his own influence on them. He also mentions a short story by Lino Novás Calvo as one of the best he ever read, recommends a book by Jose Antonio Fernandez de Castro, and notes Roumain's current activities in establishing an anthropological museum for the Haitian government.
